Since Ticketmaster’s State of Play: Sport UK report in 2018 highlighted the the importance in profile for Women’s Sport, we’re glad to see it go from strength to strength every year. To celebrate another stellar year in female sports, we wanted to highlight some of our key moments from the past year and what we’re looking forward to in the future.

Top picks of the last year

WSL record breaking North London Derby – Tottenham Hotspur v Arsenal
Tottenham Hotspur Stadium held over 38,000 people for the North London derby this past November. Alongside the Ticketmaster Sport XR solution to help deliver their ticketing demands for the event, Ticketmaster were pleased to help extend the club’s reach through a host of our marketing channels including our affiliate network.

Women’s Six Nations
Although it’s yet to be decided who the winner will be, Ticketmaster Sport has been excited to be a part of this amazing tournament for all the British nations. All three Unions have been battling it out and the question is, can The Red Roses make it a Grand Slam? To help with the growth of the championship each nation has tapped into the marketing opportunities available to reach new regional sport and family audiences.

This is a series that is unstoppable, so keep an eye out for more. If you haven’t had the chance yet, check out some great conversations with Denise Lewis, Katie Archibald, Siri Worm, Dame Katherine Grainger, Jodie Kidd, Ebony-Jewel Rainford-Brent, Ellie Simmonds,Jade Jones and Lauren Williams.

Ticketmaster Sport Team Highlights

The Ticketmaster Sport team aren’t just experts in their field but also fans of sport and we’ve asked some of the team what their highlights were from the last 12 months and what they’re looking forward to:

Jayne Maggs – Client Account Manager
Highlight of the past 12 months – Fallon Sherrock made history by coming the first woman to win in the PDC World Darts Championship, beating Ted Evetts 3-2. The event highlighted the arrival of women in a male dominated sport!

Events I’m looking forward to – Bryony Frost who in 2019 became the first female jockey to win a race over obstacles at the Cheltenham Festival on board Frodon. She will also be entering the Grand National at Aintree this year hoping to become the first female jockey to ride the winner of the race.

Girl Power!

George Hellens – B2B Director Sales & Marketing
Highlight – Watching the Lionesses reach the Semi-final of the Women’s World Cup and to see the nation get behind them. The campaign around the team announcement was a marketing dream as well!

Upcoming – NCAA March Madness is always a highlight of the year and watching the Women’s Bracket develop has been exciting every year. Can UCONN get their dominant run back? Or will there be a few upsets…let’s hope so.

Jo Cutts – Executive Assistant
Highlight – seeing 15 year old Coco Gauff make it to the 4th round of the Australian open beating Venus and defending champion Naomi Osaka on the way.

Upcoming – I’m excited to see the British stars Johanna Konta and Heather Watson in the upcoming tennis tour and of course at Wimbledon this summer.

Leanne Orr – Tournament Implementation Manager – Tournaments
Highlight – Fallon Sherrock…Enough said.

Upcoming – SheBelieves cup/Women’s Euro 2021 (Only if Northern Ireland qualify! 😊)

Jack Pickard – Marketing Manager, Ticketmaster Sport

Highlight – Working, watching and supporting our GB Fed Cup team beat Kazakhstan at a rocking Copper Box Arena to reach the World Group for the first time in 26 years was incredible. The marketing and tie branding was rather awesome too…😊

Upcoming – Tokyo Olympic Games. It’s incredible seeing athletes at the top of their game battle it out once every four years; I’m also a big fan of women’s tennis and would like to see a British player win Wimbledon – I thought Konta might do it last year and it would be amazing if she could go one better

Marcus Hagemann – Marketing Manager, Ticketmaster Germany

Highlight – German athletics women have had a sensational year. First of all, Malaika Mihambo, Konstanze Klosterhalfen, and Gesa Felicitas Krause were particularly convincing at the German championships. And then they also won a gold medal and two bronze medals at the World Cup in Doha.

Upcoming Event – Still a while to go…but the upcoming event I am most looking forward to is the Nordic Ski World Championship 2021. It will be the first time that the female Nordic combiners will fight for world championship medals in Oberstdorf next year. I think this is a great opportunity to establish this discipline and strengthen the importance of the female athletes.
